Vidalia was unable to start Tor

I am using Windows7 x64 and Firefox. Have downloaded and installed the latest Videlia bundle which includes the Torbutton. Started Vidalia, Tor, and Polipo. Got Videlia error message: Vidalia was unable to start Tor. Check your settings. I have checked the settings and everything is where it is supposed to be. The Tor message log is empty. Bitdefender is set to allow vidalia.
I am using the HTTP proxy Proxomitron. It has always worked well with Vidalia. Firefox is set to use the Proxomitron port 127.0.0.1:8080. I added 127.0.0.1:8118 polipo as Proxomitron's remote proxy and enabled.
The Torbutton preferences tab's Proxy Settings for both HTTP Proxy and SSL Proxy are set to 127.0.0.1:8080. When I test the remote proxy for port 8118 it repeatedly says Failed to connect.
Does anyone have any suggestions as I am slowly running out of ideas?
