What software did you use to convert and what format did you convert it in to? What player?

did you finalise the disk once you are done copying? Or some similar option that allows the content to be played elsewhere

Depends on the player/recorder. I have a Panasonic and the option to finalize is under DVD Management.

And remember to keep your VHS casettes also. A home burned DVD won't last forever.
I burned a couple of cd´s with christmas music 4 years ago and this year none of them were playable
Even if I used no-name cd´s, it's just a matter of time even if I have used braned cd's.
Your casettes will probbably last longer than your dvd's.

I find it weird that the discs aren't playing on PC, with the right player/codec, PCs play anything.
Which files/extensions are on burned discs? Maybe you can use sth like GSpot Codec tool on one of the discs, then post screenshot here.
