I am using Acronis True Image 10. I have a complete backup image of my media computer stored on a external USB drive. The image validates successfully each time. The external hard drive appears to be okay as chkdsk /r completes without errors.

My 300gb hard drive (only using 60gb) crashed on the media computer, I am trying to restore my image to a new 150gb hard drive. When I boot from CD and try to restore, the image says it is corrupted. Is there anything else I can do?

I ram memtest overnight and I didn't have errors.....

Like it has been said, the corrupt message means that TI can't read the archive file properly. You probably validated in Windows, thought all was well and when the crunch came you booted the CD and started up a Linux environment which seems like it didn't have good drivers for your USB disk system. (Maybe the ones in TI11 are better.) BartPE works fine because it is a Windows environment using Windows drivers.

I don't know about TI11, but Acronis always provided free BartPE plug-ins for the other versions and there are BartPE distributions available for free.

The real lesson here is that you don't have a quality backup unless you've done a few restores to ensure the program works - and that goes for any backup program.

Acronis still provides their free BartPE plugin with TI 11. It's available as a separate download in a user's Acronis account.
