I turned it off, but I can't say whether you should or not. One reason I shut it off is because the only time I want the OS making outbound network attempts is during a manual Windows Update session. I'm assuming that Windows Defender would need to update signatures on a regular basis to be effective. I'm interested to see what opinions you get. I would say that if it is on and not negatively impacting your system performance, you might as well leave it on.

Bitdefender or WindowsDefender? The latter turns itself off when it detects that another AV has been installed.

I run EAM and Windows Defender on Win 7 64 bit together without any issues.

(Windows Defender on Win 7 does not turn off when another av is installed. It only gets turned off automatically if MSE is installed)

It was disabled automatically when I installed Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2013 on my Windows 7 SP1 Home Premium 64-bit machine.

Turn it off. Emsisoft is more than capable of protecting you and causes enough slow down as it is.

On your keyboard click the Windows key + R, then paste the following: %ProgramFiles%\Windows Defender\MSASCui.exe
Click OK, WindowsDefender opens, go to "Settings" tab on the upper right side and untick "Turn on real-time protection (recommended)". Click on "save changes".
