What would happen if I imported a FDISR archive from another PC with WinXP on it to a PC with Win 7 on it and then booted to it?
The WinXP snapshot would see different hardware but what else would happen?

i'd say that if you were lucky, you could boot the xp snapshot in safe mode and it might install basic drivers, enough to get you going after a restart or two. then you could install the rest of the drivers, and get the snapshot functioning correctly.

on the other hand, when booting xp, it may bluescreen, with there being nothing you can do about it, making the snapshot useless - i've seen it go both ways.

A long while back I updated an archive on my XP machine, and then did an upgrade to vista. Using the restore archive function I restored the xp archive. A lot longer then the image restore.

Going to a different machine, however I'd bet you are going to have real problems.

    I thought as much.

    Just a little wishful thinking.

I'll make no attempt to find out.

    Thanks
