I'm setting up a new Dell Optiplex GX520. There are no PS/2 ports, so both the mouse and keyboard are USB.

I haven't upgraded to TI 10 yet, so I can't report on that.

I checked the TI 9 build 3677 Recovery CD, and both the keyboard and mouse work in the Full version as well as an external USB drive. That's great. I haven't had a chance to test the final TI 9 build, but I assume it will support both the keyboard and mouse.

I also checked the TI 8 build 897 Recovery CD for Full mode. The keyboard works, but the mouse doesn't. Using F11 and adding "usbmouse=off" after quiet (without the quotes) makes no difference.

Is there anything else to try with TI 8 that might make the mouse work such as the Safe Recovery CD? The owner of the new Optiplex owns a copy of TI 8 but not 9.

You might try looking in the BIOS settings for any USB keyboard/mouse related options. One of my boards has USB keyboard & USB mouse options to allow them to work on operating systems that don't support USB. I guess it just emulates PS/2 connections. Some boards also have a Legacy USB option.

That's a good thought, but with this new Dell, there are no USB settings except to turn the front USB ports on or off.

I was just wondering if there were any other F11 command line additions in Version 8 that might help.

I just tested version 9 build 3854, and it works fine with keyboard and mouse support in the Full mode.

I think I need to create a version 8 SAFE mode CD and try that.

    Hi there John,

Might be worth updating to the final build (937) of TI 8.0 and creating a new bootable rescue CD. Who knows, it may just recognise the Optiplex GX520 hardware.

    Regards

Oops! I don't know where the 897 build came from. I meant to type 937. Bad, bad fingers.

Funny that the keyboard is recognized but not the mouse. Working from the keyboard is very non-intuitive for selecting partitions to be backed up and a few other things.

I'll have to reinstall version 8.937 to make a Safe Recovery CD and see what that does.

    Merry Christmas
