    Hi,

I perform regular image backups using True Image and I have acquired a new PC that has slightly different h/w.

Can I restore an image from the old PC to the new PC.

    Both run XP Professional.

    Thanks,

    Stoggers.

    Hello Stoggers

Depending on how different your hardware is, after the restore, you may have to boot from the Windows installation CD and carry out a "Repair" resinstall and reactivate Windows as per <this post> by TheQuest. At the very least you would need to udate some of your device drivers to take into account the new hardware.

    Regards

You want Method 2. Worked fine for me. But,
    1) Back up data first, just in case
    2) If you use Outlook express, backup address books and messages, cause they will most likely be lost
    3) Don't connect to the internet until you have a firewall running, either hardware or software.
    4) Reinstall all windows updates

    Good luck!
