Update Win 8 before install Win 8.1 or not

I have had to re-install Win 8 and want to know if it is necessary to update Win 8 before doing so. It will involve some 890 MB and am on a slow connection so would prefer not to do this.

As far as I'm aware the Windows 8.1 update only shows in the store if you have installed all the updates for Windows 8.

Looks like you are correct. It seems it needs KB 2871389 before it will list the upgrade, but that is not listed currently, so will have to d/l a gig of updates before it will list the next lot of updates. Why can't MS list them all together??

Got a dodgy connection here with all high winds - so that is going to be fun.

 

Yeah there nothing worse than installing Windows & then finding out there a shed load of updates that then have to be installed

 

The best way i think is to grab a Windows 8.1 iso, which get the same version of your windows 8.
