    Norton 2002 problems..........

After reading the post below about Norton problems I am having some of the same things happen. After running live update on May 18th I started to have problems like a parasite infection. My computer is running really slow and won't access web except in safe mode. Some other things I have found are that when I check Norton security it is disabled! I did not disable it but somehow it is. Also, I have adaware and ran that, spywareguard, bioclean, pop-up stopper, and have run cwshredder in the past that have solved browser hijack problem but not this time. The worst part of this is when I went to symantec for support it replied saying we no longer support NIS 2002 or NAV 2002 and I need to pay to purchase 2004. This is such bs since I have another month on my subscription service. Oh I also tried to uninstall both Norton's from safe mode and regular boot to no success. I figure I will just install another anti-virus and internet security program. So how do I find and get rid of this parasite and any suggestions for new programs once I am done fixing this mess? Thanks.

don't install another antivirus without uninstalling Norton. there are several ways to uninstall norton.
    1. from the start menu link.
    2. from control panel's add remove program
    3. from the uninstall program.

if your installation is corrupted, which is very likely due to the Norton Protect failure problem, you can re-install it again and uninstall it. it works for me when i have uninstallation problem. when you have uninstalled it you can try this antivirus called eTrust EZ antivirus.

    ftp://ftpav.ca.com/pub/myeTrust/apps/EZAntivirus.exe

register here to get a 1 year license free of cost.

    http://www.my-etrust.com/microsoft

well that was a very very good FREE solution. if you want to pay then you can go for:

    1. Kaspersky 5
    2. NOD32 v2
    3. Trend Micro Internet Security v11 ( antivirus+firewall)
    4. F-Prot v3.14e
    5 McAfee Virus Scan 8
    6 Norton 2004

    in that order.

    1. Kaspersky
    2. F-secure
    3. Norman Virus Control

That order should be better. :D

better in your eyes. F-Secure and Norman both are good but costly programs.
    so let Divecozumel decide.

A personal order it is - and nothing wrong with that ;).

Personally, I do advize to stay away from KAV v5 for the moment; too many issues to be ironed out. And that's very common for new releases from all antiviruses, antitrojans etc. - thus not intended as bashing.

    regards.

    Hi,

I don't know about which posting you were talking about when you wrote:
"After reading the post below about Norton problems".

However there are a lot of people, in particular those having the 2002 versions, who have lots of problems after the latest program updates from Symantec.
There are postings about it here:
    Norton Internet Security 2002
    Symantec updates 12/5/04

You will find there also links to threads at DSLR.

As far as I know there is no solution as of yet.

A few days ago I had a quick IM with someone from Symantec: they are aware of the problem, I was told.
But I really don't know if and when there will be a fix......

After reading a few forums I discovered that using system restore to a point prior to May 14th will get your computer running normal again. I think I will have to get rid of Norton and try something else though considering the fact this has happened more than once with the software updates. Thanks again for all your help and suggestions.
