There is a forum-part for update alerts. At the moment it is only for update notifications for anti-virus and anti-Trojan software. Although it is only for AV/AT, in the past there were also some times postings made there for some other software, like for example for SpyCop and AdAware-reference-file. I would like to know your opinion about whether all update alerts would be centralized in one forum-part, or leave it as it is. Please give also your suggestions about what kind of update alerts you would like to see there or not; that means for what kind of software.
OK, let me be the first one with my ideas for the moment (but of course I could change my opinion....): A centralized forum part for all update notifications, except for firewalls: I think at the moment that update alerts for firewalls would be better placed in the firewall-section. What kind of update alerts I'm thinking of? AV/AT and all privacy concerned software that somehow works with a list of "definitions" or something like that. In that case I see the following examples of software for which updates could be placed there: AdAware, SpyCop, IE-Spyad, HOSTS, etc. Update alerts for example for IEClean or WindowWasher will not be placed in that centralized section, cause they do not depend on some kind of list of "definitions". When they are updated/upgraded, then such a posting could be made in the usual Privacy Software section. Does this make sense?
Makes perfect sense, FanJ. Couldn't have said it better My first visit on this forum is always that section. One quick look for any programs installed on my computer and I know what to do. Program upgrades are a completely different subject and should be posted accordingly. Regards, Pieter
Agreed. Definition updates are critical when it comes to privacy/security-related programs that use them - especially in the case of people who update manually. While a lot of us here have hours and hours each day to study/read all posts in all forums, the majority of people don't. Enabling everyone to pick up all on all the updates they might need in one forum is something I see as a very valuable member service. Pete
OK, and what are your thoughts about: 1) AdAware itself; reference-file updates in the centralized section, but an upgrade notification of the program itself also in the centralized section? 2) SpyBot S&D: also in the centralized section? I would suggest: yes and yes.
Hi everyone! I wanted to voice my thoughts along with you all. I did vote! I'm glad it's still an open idea. Still love this site what ever the out come though. I really like the idea of every update being in one forum. First off I feel that every topic and all the software covered in the site is of value, although we don't use each and everyone I found I was able to let others know of updates for programs they use. I find keeping up on this makes me some what of the answer guy in my circle, and yes I like that. So because It's just plan good knowledge and can be of importants even though I may not use each program I think a central forum for updates is a way to keep up on things at what I consider to be the best forum for security knowledge out here! Having all the updates in one forum also for me at least held another great feature in that I could view the forum and then mark it read and know if it says something new I could check on the new updates!
Well, since the posts all clearly do point to one opinion: As from now on, all security and privacy software updates are centralized in the good old "Update Alerts" forum. No need to keep this poll open for that reason: closed. regards. paul
