    Ghost goups threads:

    1. Tested contributed Ghost files.
    2. Tested contributed ghost files discussions
    3. Untested contributed Ghost files
    4. Untestested contributed Ghost files discussions

    Guidlines for posting .gst files:

Initially a post should be made into the "Untested contributed Ghost files" thread, this should contain a few paragraphs on the group, a version number and an attachment with the gst file(s). If you have tested the group on a number of computers it is worth while indicating that you have tested it and also to indicate if other people have been involved in the testing. This will help people judge the level of risk involved with trying out the files

Prior to posting your ghost files can the group be tested across user logout and login, then with a reboot. These are the most problematic areas that people typically cannot recover from easily so it is best to test before releasing

Before user contributed group will be considered ready to move into the Tested thread it will need to be seen to be stable, safe and contribute something of worth (and have some documentation)

As issues are discovered with a group (there are bound to be some) an administrator or moderator might annotate the download post with an indication of problems people are having. Using additional groups is something done at your own risk and should not be done on machines that you cannot easily recover. System Restore can sometimes be very useful in cases where you unintentionally lock up the machine

Documentation is important because it can help other people to understand the choices that were made when the group was created.
Everybodies computer is a little different so not every choice will apply or be appropriate to somebody else
    Documentation should include
    * A category, description and purpose of each group
** Example categories: Security, Privacy, Tuning/Tweaking
    * Key(s) descriptions and the reason why they are included
** If possible a link back to microsoft (or other reputable site) describing the key
** The description could indicate why the key was included
    * Any other relevant background information.

Hi all, sorry about the long absence... :)

I'm uploading a new and improved gsr file for use with the latest version of RegDefend.

It features more complete protection, while not being overly invasive, and it replaces my 'old' ghst file, also covering everything in the default RD set.

You shouldn't be getting too many unexpected popups, except of course hailing from applications that only you have installed...

Give it a go, suggestions and criticism welcome! :)

    Hi Tony,

    Thanks for the Ruleset.

    I notice you have included:-

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\?\Shell**

    instead of:-

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\Shell**

    Also you have included:-

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Control\Wow**

    whereas I presume you mean:-

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\*controlset*\Control\Wow**

I only mention these two 'cos I assume they won't work as intended unless they are edited.

    Nope, I meant exactly that.

It is in fact intended to target the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\Shell (and downward) subkey.

The ? wildcard stands for only 1 character, whereas in RD * would include for example HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\batfile\Shell**, HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\directory\Shell**, and so on...

Ah, I got that one from DiamondCS, and forgot to think for myself as well... LOL:

I'll edit that one, thanks for being watchful! :)

New one up again, includes a new apps group to help you sail through a Windows Update session without too many popups, if any.

OK, a new file has been uploaded. App groups for Crap Cleaner and Avant Browser (courtesy Gottadoit) have been added, and ALL third party app groups are now disabled by default.

You can enable, edit, or delete them as required in your particular configuration.

Hi Tony, I've tried a couple of the links and got an "Invalid Link" message. Is there a site somewhere to see the latest file?
This is my first venture into this area, even though I've had the Ghost Suite for about two months.

    Thanks in advance

Hi redwolfe_98 and Tony, The link in the 02/06 post was the one that didn't work for me, but the one just above did, so I now have the file. Now I have to learn how to use it, I'll be reading these threads for all the tips and such.

    Thanks for helping

    Jim Clements

Edit Wow, I decided to try the 02/06 link again, and it worked! I don't understand, but maybe something in my environment was weird yesterday. I'll bookmark the Tony.zip link then, for future releases. Thanks again guys,

    Jim
