I am planning to install NOD32 av. I need to uninstall Norton before installing NOD32. There is a period of time after uninstalling Norton and installing / activating NOD32 that my computer is unprotected. How is this handled? Can I disconnect from the internet during this period of time, so I don't get infected?

You can't actually get infected since you're not doing anything but uninstalling then installing. But you can disconnect the internet if you want to be 100% sure and give you peace of mind.
