Recently I reformatted my computer and installed WIN XP PROF(SP-2) with a separate partition of 1GB for temporary files . Have deleted the TEMP & TMP folders , through system variables , on the C drive and created these on the partition for temporary files.

I also have Avast AV Home Edition (Ver 4.7.1001) installed alongwith Zone Alarm (Ver 7.0.362.000).

To my utter surprise I found a couple of days ago that my CCleaner is not cleaning the temporary folders and on checking up I find the following in these folders :
    1. TMP - (a) Folder : _avast4_ with no files
    (b) Folder ~nsu.tmp containing 1 file viz. Au.exe
    (c) Folder plugtmp with no files
    (d) several files with names like ZLT000f9.TMP

    2. TEMP - (a) Folder : _avast4_ with 1 file viz. Webshlock.txt
    (b) 1 file viz. _avast4_
    (c) several files with names like Perflib_Perfdata_1d8.dat

On trying to clean these folders I met with BSOD-BAD POOL HEADER etc.

I would like a confirmation if these files are normal and associated with avast and information as to whether they can be moved to wherever they are normally supposed to reside.

    Thanks in advance.

Leave the _avast_ folder alone. It's an avast! working folder.
Perflib files are not from avast! but they are from Windows itself.
