I have spent a lot of time reading about HIPS in the other anti malware forum. Hard to choose. I have spent a lot of time in the other firewall forum. Hard to choose so I maybe just use windows firewall. At least my AV is settled so I dont have to go hunting for a good AV :)

    WRONG

    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=195676

Maybe I have to go hunting for a new AV.

    Does this AV exist?:

    Good detection and removal
    Light
    Fast scanning speed
    Few false positives
    Good support

It can be free or paid, but I prefer free. Dont think I want a suite, just AV.

Proactive is most important to me because I can also use different scanners.

kav or norton should meet all your requirements.

    Thanks

I had Norton and Norman before, and I dont want to use them anymore. I have read good things about Kav and may trial it.

My only concern about Kav (and others) is proactive test at av-comparatives. Of course I dont know how much to put in those tests, but I find proactive important. Scanners can be found everywhere.

I find Kav interesting. Also their firewall. The only suite I would consider is Kav. But I have to search for info and read more about it, specially the firewall. (Theres a HIPS-function too?).

I also consider running without AV. Then I would have:

    router
    firewall (windows or other)
    Treatfire
    Another strong HIPS, maybe Prosecurity

I am not an very advanced user so I dont know if I'm ready for this.

if you install KAV, you can remove threatfire and any other type of HIPS, kaspersky has its own.

Thanks. I have read about it (KAV HIPS) somewhere at Wilders, but did not pay much attention to it because I thaugt I should stay with Nod. So theres KAV, AntiHacker (firewall) and what was the name of the KAV HIPS?

Is it integrated with the firewall? Can you turn off the HIPS-function and just use AV and firewall?

For AV I probably choose between:

    KAV (standalone or suite)
Stay with NOD (maybe, if my problem is solved)

    or

Avira Antivir free. I see they score very good, if not best, in the last 2 or 3 proactive tests. But many FP. And does it have compability issues with other applications?

    What is meant by light?

Do you have a 6 year old computer with 256 mb of ram and minimal ram usage is the objective?

    Is system slowdown your problem?

Does it have too many calories?

I have a pile of lead scuba weights on the floor. Is that what you are trying to get away from?

Avira with heuristics set to medium meets all your conditions. Setting heuristics to high may lead to some FPs, but will imrpove detection a lot. They are now number one in detection rates and it is very light.

I second the motion. I switched to Avira after several years with NOD, I never thought I would say that. It's light and fast with excellent detection.

    I'd suggest you give F-Prot a try.

I was in similar situation and decided to go with AVG Anti-Malware.

    I don't regret my choice.

Can recommend AVG Pro-there is a thread at the moment of a free offer-it meets all your criteria.Otherwise AVG Free is almost identical.

User friendly, fast, light trouble free, good detection rates and NEVER had a false positive that I can think of.

It just sits in the background and can be ignored.

Was a very happy NOD32 2.7 user, but changed due to the Comodo v.3
and EAV v.3 proxy probs. However, more importantly as I could have
renewed v.2.7 which I wanted, I found it impossible to renew at
the local website to which I was redirected. Didn't have/want to
waste time on that circus so installed Avira PE and find it good so far.

Best for the New Year !

Well now you should be a confused Nod users. Bottom line, is no one but y ou can choose. You are going to have to try and decide for yourself. People can and will post their opinions and votes, and by now there is a vote for every AV out there. Helpful? I doubt it. You have to make the choice yourself.

    Kav, Norton- 2007/2008, Avira:

You can't really go wrong with any of them. They all will give you good protection. Download the trials and run them each. Pick the one that runs the best on your computer.
