Malwarebytes has recently updated to version 1.45. Since the update I am unable to update the database associated with that software. It appears that ESET Smart Security, which I have, is blocking this programme from updating. How can I fix this?

    Hi
I didn't find that this worked. I don't get any error messages, it just doesn't appear to connect to the Malwarebytes update server. I have another PC (Win 7) with ESET Nod 32 Anti-virus only and Malwarebytes updates normally. Where exactly in Smart Security do I apply the exclusions?

Set the firewall to log all blocked connections as described here. Post back if you need help in creating firewall rules.

I had this problem for a while and worked with MalwareBytes tech support to get to the following solution:

    - Click Start | Control Panel | Internet Options
    - Click the 'Connections Tab'
    - Click the 'Lan Settings' button at the bottom of the window
    - UN-check 'Use proxy server' and check 'Automatically detect settings'
    - Click 'OK' to close windows

On my system the 'Use Proxy Server' was already un-checked, but the 'Automatically Detect Settings' was not checked. Checking this box and clicking 'OK' to close the windows fixed the problem for me.

    Hope this helps!

I wasn't able to update or install ESET due to malware. I went to another machine and was able to update Malwarebytes on it. I copied this file to same folder on the infected machine, overwriting rules.ref there and rebooted.

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref

After rebooting Malwarebytes was fully updated to the latest definitions.
