unable to update definitions

    Hi,
    just making a note:

    I had trouble updating antivirus defns for eset nod32. tried uninstalling reinstalling several times.

    5007 not need errors

    retval = 0x1204, failures: 4, regretval = 0x6000
    Update Updater: Switch DEVEL modules retval = 0x00005007 [NOT NEED]

    this turned out to be due to a bad norton antivirus removal.

    Had to run norton removal tool: http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

    Cleared up after reboot.

    Hello Eric,

    Previous antivirus software not removed completely is one issue that seems to cause the most odd symptoms. Some other issues I have seen due to other AV drivers and services lingering are no internet, slow performance, lock-ups, blue screens and permission problems.

    Most of the time the ESET installer will warn you if traces of a previous AV are detected. Even if it doesn't, it's a good idea to run the removal tool for the product that was there if there is one.
