unable to find internet connection

I recently built a new pc, along with my existing pc,and installed home network, I can finally see both pc's from each other, and surf the internet from both pc's using a shared DSL connection.
Both are using XP pro, I just installed spyware blaster and tried to update the defs, it keeps coming back and telling me it can't find the internet connection, even when IE is finding it just fine, what is the issue, the error says can't find the SSL connection, I'm having this issue with another piece of software also, adaware, any suggestions??
