    Everything should be Opt-in only - As bad as Opt-out is, it's better that than nothing at all, but to deceive people about it is pretty darned low. Whoever was responsible for letting this happen should lose their job and be sued out of existence.

    To be fair to the HMRC, an astonishing thing but there you are, they have in fact been quite advanced (via partners) in offering U2F options for online authentication.

    I tend to avoid support lines on the basis of long wait times, impenetrable menus and staff who are on a script and cannot handle real issues. I've also been lied to to often by commercial helplines, so I tend to do stuff in writing.

    Yeah, but they only recorded people using their posh telephone voice though.
