Article Dated YESTERDAY Morning reporting on completion of an investigation -- appears that the horse left the barn door long before counter-measures were taken:

"Ministers’ email addresses and passwords up for sale

Russian hackers trade haul of stolen data

Passwords belonging to British cabinet ministers, ambassadors and senior police officers have been traded online by Russian hackers, an investigation by The Times has found..."

Well, look at it this way and then you tell me if it's OK to gloat:

When politicians get hacked the political and electoral processes and democracies and whatever remains of our Democratic Republic, in The USA, gets hacked along with them.

    (Yeah, I guess it's still OK to gloat a little :) )

Well I have thought long and hard about this and reached the conclusion that democracy has been reduced to little more than a vehicle to keep members of the wealthy elite who are greedy for power and control in office.
My idea for an alternative would be like jury duty where members are selected from the population at random. Possibly with some limitations as per IQ level.

"Hackers pose as lawmakers, launch [a new] cyber attack on UK Parliament

Politicians were warned that hackers were posing as parliamentary officials asking for passwords

Britain's Parliament has been hit by a new wave of cyber attack after hackers attempted to trick lawmakers into revealing their passwords, prompting officials to warn MPs and their aides to guard against such threats....

'The caller is informing users that they have been employed by the digital service to help with the cyber attack [of last week]. These calls are not from the digital service. We will never ask you for your password'...the [warning] message said..."

"Parliament cyber attack: Data breach under investigation after hackers target MPs' emails...

Investigators found that under 0.5 per cent of 9,000 accounts were compromised during the “sustained and determined” attempt last month, which resulted in part of the parliamentary email system being taken offline..."
