An investigation into algorithms used by companies such as Google, Facebook and Amazon has been launched today amid fears they are 'manipulating' lives and are used to 'artificially change perceptions' by cherry-picking what news internet users see.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) will probe fears whether the software used by tech giants is corrupting lives and livelihoods by limiting choice, bumping up prices and skewing how they consume current affairs..."

This has been known for a long time, finally they're doin smth about it

    Also interesting reads:

I personally use duck duck go, but every 5-10 searches or so I JUST HAVE to use google, cuz duckduckgo provides completely irrelevant results to what I'm searching. For example, when I duckduckgo someone's wow char name + server name (that is very specific, any search engine should easily be able to find it), it shows random stuff. But on google, first link shows the char page to character (what I want), second link shows stats about the character etc. And this is not based on user searches (more people searching = more accurate results), cuz I highly doubt anyone searched my wow char on google lol, it's just google providing more relevant results despite my history of google being completely clear (it's as if I'm a brand new user at google). That said I don't use facebook or amazon (rarely) so I wouldn't know about these. But google is definitely skewed based on past searches and other stuff.

And yes youtube has watch history and one more thingy that you can toggle from your google settings, I see no reason to toggle it off as it provides me good recommendations and generally knows what Im trying to find and what to show. Oh yeah they're gonna know what a random guy on the internet watches, big deal.

NO ONE WILL EARN AD REVENUE, ONLY ME - Google
