see: https://superuser.com/questions/1230746/windows-does-not-boot-when-using-uefi-boot-modeU Could it be this simple after initial error, I installed with UEFI off, then turning UEFI on caused the problem again. With UEFI on, F12 at Dell logo, choose boot from flash drive, for the install see: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/confirmation.451817/ related info Troubling - why the first time, what caused is it still present, or something diff? Ugh! re-install all AGAIN anything to try? Most of that superuser is beyond me.
You need to convert the drive from MGR to GPT. Microsoft provide instructions in the following link. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...ion-from/aa8c2de3-460b-4a8c-b30b-641405f800d7
see this pls: https://pureinfotech.com/repair-master-boot-record-mbr-windows-10/ I F12 Enabled 'legacy boot' with USB win10 media creator plugged in. I was going to use the command from above article to repair mbr. It booted to windows10 i installed yesterday, with all the apps. What to do now? I believe UEFI will cause NO OS, when changing from off to on. This is a home PC, with VPN & very good security, & safe hex practiced here, how vulnerable does UEFI make me?
I'm on problematic Dell now & got here from an 'attempt' to follow <post 3's url>, & it booted allowing the machine to be used. UEFI dis-abled OS is ok if choose boot from USB that has the proper thumb drive in it so can the fix, MBR be done within Windows?
I hope I'm getting your point. Your installed Windows is in Legacy mode. Check the BIOS mode by running System Information. I installed Windows 10 in Legacy/MBR mode. Using Aomei Partition Assistant Pro, I converted it to GPT/UEFI recently. It only took a few seconds to convert. Setting the mode to UEFI in the BIOS allowed me to boot into Windows successfully.
@khanyash - It worked for you, with the assist of, Aomei Partition Assistant Pro. The hard way or re-do. Formatted to NTFS install MediaCreator Win 10 onto thumb drive > UEFI on > choose boot from USB <<note previouslu not shown USB boot wrong format>> Win10 installs with UEFI on. Anyway that's the plan for most of today re-do. (My bad, or error, due to too many lost clusters for me) Thank You
With legacy boot enabled follow the steps in the article I linked to. Then reboot and enter the BIOS and change it to UEFI boot.
@roger_m - thanks! All is back to normal with your help & that of the Wilders community. This was an unexpected surprise & shows I have embarrassingly forgotten, what I once taught, from the knowledge gained here. I'm still uncertain why the event took place, to begin with <curious>, but the aftermath compounded by 'user error' <lost clusters me>, it's like a 'rookie' error, 'install OS from fat-32 formatted' Frustration, I'll 'try' to write more clearly, if confused pls 'ask' before it becomes more complicated. Thank You!
