What is OO far more compatible than?

Also, can you create excel macros with it? If you can that would be really useful.

Open Office supports all Excel macros and you can use its macro editor to create macros compatible with Excel. Like Linux, Open Office is a separate entity and not a MS Office clone, there is a learning curve but the reward is richer in the end.

I asked because the excel macros from work, don't operate properly with OO on my linux box at home.

However, thanks to your comment I investigated and found the following link which might help me and possibly others: http://www.business-spreadsheets.com/vba2oo.asp

I will give it a go next week.

If you are in Windows I would strongly suggest you try out Go OO which is an improved fork of OO developed for Windows by Ubuntu OO devs. This makes OO far more compatible than regular OO.
