Since the Ubuntu Software Center was introduced, external developers are allowed to upload their applications (apps) to it. These apps have been manually reviewed so far in order to prevent, e.g., security issues. However, this manual review process has resulted in a bottleneck.

A new proposal (App Developer Upload Process) tries to overcome these problems: Its core is an automated process, and an important part of it is an obligatory AppArmor profile to "provide a security sandbox to protect the user from malicious or simply broken code".

    Interesting read.
