    @gorhill ,

If I restore uBO back to default will I lose my custom filters under My Filters?

I believe you will. Backup anything you want from Settings, My Filters or My Rules as needed.

    For the record:

I copied My Filters into Notepad and saved the file. Restored uBO to default.

Firefox loads just as slow as before!!!

    using
and NO slowdown, neither in firefox nor chromium (same settings)

i am pretty sure that norton is the culprit, i dont have such limits with windows defender on windows 10 here, and this machine is not the newest.

@Krusty open an empty tab, open the ubo logger, then open your homepage and upload the logger report here. bmake sure the logger has no records before opening your homepage.

Did you try to set the "suspendTabsUntilReady" setting to "no" as advised? If not, why?

Click the icon next to "I am an advanced user (required reading) and it will open advanced settings in new tab. There you can find suspendTabsUntilReady setting.

@Krusty i think your storage test result suggests that either caching/history is disabled or dom storage is disabled or ff is used in private mode.

No not yet, because I was expecting to see a significant improvement using default settings and filter lists.

Anyway, I don't think Firefox loading slow is all on uBO. I disabled both Norton Safe Web and Norton Password Manager extensions and did see an improvement. This doesn't let uBO off the hook though because when I am waiting for Firefox to load its home page as soon as I disable uBO the page loads. I'm obviously no developer, but could this suggest there is some incompatibility between uBO and the Norton extensions?

To add wait to my speculation, I do not have either Norton extensions installed on this machine which is somewhat slower than my desktop, same uBO filter lists and settings, and don't seem to be affected.
    The Norton extensions perhaps.
I do not store History, so that's probably it.

@Krusty you have both shadow defender and sbie, no? on that machine you're having the issue, in shadow mode or in a sboxed ff, remove norton safe web and see if the issue persists. if it's resolved, then ditch either ubo or nsw.

my bad, mistook you for another wilders fellow. anyways, then remove nsw to see if it's the culprit. because disabling extensions doesn't always work. in some cases, removing them might be necessary.

Uninstall FF, clean everything related to it, reinstall.

I agree. You could have had it clean installed and be up and running while all this diagnosing/posting has been going on.

And I could have wasted my time and still be having the exact same issue.

and instead of guessing if you would waste your time doing it, you would in fact already know the answer. :p

I'm reasonably sure the combination of the Norton extensions + uBO is the cause.

I guess you mean their extensions, although... maybe not.

Sure, I could ditch Safe Web, but Norton will cry like a baby without a dummy if no Safe Web. Kind of use to Password Manager now though.

No, the full suite. With the time you spent here you should know by now than AVs suites are useless.

Anyway, that's OT for this thread,.

    Cheers.

the norton extension cant work without the whole suite
in some cases such extensions are not removed, either avast, avira or norton or ..., and those remnants make firefox unstable.
thats why a clean profile or profile reset after such operations is recommended.
