Windows Task Manager of Windows 2000 Pro lists two instances of regdefend.exe running at the same time.
One, PID 1408, takes up 5,120K of Memory Usage and has taken 1:10 minutes of CPU Time; at the same time, the other, PID 1436, has taken up 2,140K of Memory Usage and 0:00:00 time of CPU Time.

I assume I can end the instance with no CPU usage; am I correct?

    How could this duplication happen?

It's by design to protect Regdefend.
