I recently moved a lot of data to a truecrypt volume, and it's been working just fine until now. Truecrypt mounts it, but Windows just says "The disk structure is corrupted and unreadable".

I've looked around on google and generally I get the impression that there's no hope. I'm usually reluctant to ask for help on the internet but this is my last resort. It seems that TestDisk is my only hope, but I would really appreciate it if someone could guide me through the process as I don't want to mess it up.

Ironically today is the day I was planning to start backing up. And this is my first truecrypt-related problem, after 5 years of use.

It's an MBR drive with an encrypted FAT32 partition containing an NTFS hidden volume. I definitely haven't modified the partitions or mounted the outer volume. I also changed the partition type to prevent windows from automatically formatting it.

I appreciate I've been a bit silly here by messing around with truecrypt without a backup. This was only supposed to be a temporary stage as I was juggling a lot of data and didn't have enough storage. And today I'd finally managed to free some storage up. Anyway I'd just be so grateful if anyone has any ideas, or guidance for using TestDisk.

I feel kinda stupid but it turns out literally all i needed to do was right click > repair filesystem in truecrypt. All's well that ends well, and I guess I might as well leave this post for other googlers
