Trial won't update

    I installed a trial for Win 7. It's supposed to be good for 30 days but I'm being asked for a username and pwd to update. WTF?

    Yes, you need the trial key and password sent to the email address you registered with, and put that in the update section.

    thought so but I didn't have to offer one to even download it from the Eset site.

    On the download page http://www.eset.com/download/free_trial_download_int.php, there's a section telling the following:

    NOTE: You need to have credentials to download ESET Smart Security 4. Click here to request them and an email with a username and password will be sent to you shortly.
