Just installed the latest trial version of ESS and not highly impressed to be honest.
IE6 Firefox and Thunderbird all take around 10 seconds to start up.
Before, it was within 2 seconds.
    Have I maybe changed/not changed a setting?

Do you use default settings? Didn't you enable advanced heuristics on access?

At default install settings and with advanced heuristics either on or off, it still takes ages to let the above programs start up.

What about disabling the real-time file system protection for a moment to see if it makes a difference?

Just tried that, and still makes no difference.

Is the trial version different to the paid version?
I installed mine (paid version) two days ago and
I must say my laptop flies. I used to use Comodo
and it was a memory hog....glad I got rid of it.

I don't think the trial version is any different.
The computer runs fine, just bloody slow to actually start certain programs.
Once they start, it's all fine.

Maybe there's a conflict with another security application you might have installed. Once you have disabled the real-time file system protection module, the files on the disk are not scanned and thus ESS/EAV cannot cause such delays.

I just disabled real time, web access and e-mail protection, and Thunderbird still took 10 seconds or so to start up.
I think I'll uninstall it, and try again.
edit - I don't have any other security programs running either. I had spyware doctor installed, but I've shut it down.
Don't even have Windows firewall going. (XP)

Well, I give up. Just uninstalled NOD. Restarted computer, and all programs flew open again, as they should.
Reinstalled NOD, and everything slows down again, even with realtime turned off, and all other monitoring turned off.
I love the old NOD, but this one seems like it wasn't really ready for release.
Thanks for trying to help, but it's just too slow to bother with, and I don't know if it's really protecting my computer. :(

Maybe there's malware running on your computer. Could you please send a log from ESET Sysinspector to support[at]eset.com with this thread's url in the subject?

I can't now. I uninstalled it and went back to plain old V2.5 av (or whatever it is) and turned spyware doctor back on.
If I get time tomorrow, I'll uninstall all this, and try V3 again.
