Trend Micro has released patches for a critical authentication bypass vulnerability in Trend Micro ServerProtect

Tracked as CVE-2021-36745 and featuring a CVSS score of 9.8, the security hole could be exploited by remote attackers to completely bypass authentication on a vulnerable system.

The enterprise-grade real-time malware detection solution provides virus, spyware and rootkit protection for servers, while also automating security operations. Also packing cleanup capabilities, the software features support for multiple platforms.

The newly addressed vulnerability was reported to Trend Micro in April. It was discovered by Yuto Maeda from Cyber Defense Institute and reported through Trend Micro’s Zero Day Initiative (ZDI).

“The specific flaw exists within the ServerProtect console. The issue results from the lack of proper validation prior to authentication. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to bypass authentication on the system,” ZDI reveals in an advisory.
A mitigating factor for this type of vulnerability, Trend Micro says, is the fact that the attacker generally needs physical or remote access to a vulnerable machine.

Looks like Trend Micro has had to do a bit more repair work.

Trend Micro antivirus has fixed a false positive affecting its Apex One endpoint security solution that caused Microsoft Edge updates to be tagged as malware and the Windows registry to be incorrectly modified.
According to hundreds of customer reports that started streaming in earlier this week on the company's forum and on social networks, the false positive affected update packages stored in the Microsoft Edge installation folder.
As users further revealed, the Trend Micro Apex One flagged the browser updates as Virus/Malware: TROJ_FRS.VSNTE222 and Virus/Malware: TSC_GENCLEAN.
