I just made an incremental backup and was surprised to see that it took about the same time as the full backup did. Full backup was of ~ 8GB and the incremental was made the following day with minimal chanes made (no defrag either).

Is this typical? I thought I had read somewhere that it should take a lot less time but now I can't find the source of that info.

The importance of the incremental type of backup is the size of the backup, not the speed

Is your incremental significantly smaller than the full?

When doing an Incremental backup, ATI still has to read through your entire hard drive, so it's still going to take some time. Though not quite as much as full, since it will spin less CPU cycles on compressing and writing all the data.
