With this argument any free AV is better than Prevx for the average user.

Im liking the lightness very much, but Im worried about the loads of false positives and the effectiveness of PrevX. Are there other alternatives to PrevX?

I hope you don't get sucked into an A versus B. You asked for light, stable, anti-"sketchy". I repeat - use an imager + Prevx-with-SOL + integrity checker + Win's built-in firewall. Only 2 apps running real-time (Prevx & FW) and other 2 on-demand (imager & integrity checker).

Therewith you can do "sketchy" &/or "go on the Dark Side" with great aplomb.

If you're still antsy with that set-up, run Hitman Pro on-demand every day or so -- fast & free.

I hereby bequeath this thread to the masses. I'm going to the shopping center to watch haircuts.

But with prevx you are interested in safeonline or not?
When you say alternative do you mean another tool that works alongside with an AV?

Just programs that are similar in general. Not so much the web module. The only one I can think of is Hitman Pro.

But hitman does not have real time protection... it's not similar to Prevx or Prevx SafeOnline at all IMO.
But you are looking for a subtitute of the AV (an AV) or a program to run along side an AV?

Looking for possibly an alternative to PrevX, what ever that may be, Im not sure. I dont know what to classify PrevX as in the first place.

I like it, but the thing Im concerned with is the uncertainty of weather or not its an all in one AV/Antimalware or either or.

The thing that made prevx unique is that it's a complete AV (antimalware) that can work at the same time with any AV. The only similar program that can do this is Immunet Free.

But you can get SafeOnline and Prevx (only detection) for free, SafeOnline is a different layer of protection and an excellent "broswer protector", if you computer is infected safeonline will protect your broswer so the malware could not steal anything, also it protect you from malicious web sites.

Another layer of protection that will not slow down your computer, maybe in some cases only your browsing speed is the DNS, take a look here: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=279757

I would say that Prevx alone (paid) is good enough.
If someone is paranoid enough, second opinion with MBAM or HitmanPro would be nice addition.

The issues with DNS services are that I travel alot. That means hotels. Most hotels Ive encountered have an issue with DNS servers that arent the ones they have configured for their internet services.

Prevx strong side is 0-day (probably the best security app against 0-day malware) threats as well as protecting important stuff (online), when being unknowingly infected. The "ordinary signature"-detection is near top-end. If you run it with a good AV and you'll have a fool-proof protection.

I would suggest that you login as a member of the Users group only, not admin. This will alleviate many concerns of a questionable downloaded file possibly compromising your system. The performance hit is nil.

I would suggest using a VM of some kind or SBIE for testing these downloaded files in, rendering FP results moot from the scanners. Still scan them if you like, or use a HIPS or other tool in the VM to see really what the questionable file is doing.

I would also suggest Returnil or Shadow Defender as an alternative if you don't want to test your downloaded files in VM or SBIE.

The point I am trying to make is simple. You don't have to rely on scanners for your protection especially if you know you might have downloaded something 'sketchy'. Use them in addition to a mechanism that will contain. Evaluate the downloaded file within the contained environment before you introduce it into the live system. I use SBIE for this now primarily.

I added IP Plus and DynDNS with filtering from phishing sites, gambling sites, sites that contain malware, and a few others.

IP Plus removed again. It bogs down my system and gets laggy every 30 seconds or so. I dont have the time to troubleshoot so looking for another very light option. I may run Avast just the AV portion.
