I bet they can still make large profits even with the increased labour costs, due to how overpriced those Macs are.

Hey, if they make their computers in the good old US of A then kudos to them. I wish more manufactures went that way and I am hoping that they succeed.

Good news! Hope that more will follow.
^^ and not at those miserable minimum wages either ....
I get this hunch. Will it be Foxconn that will be manufacturing an Apple product in the USA? Foxconn has been a lot in the not so good news in the last year(s).

Apple should back as far away from FoxConn as they can. The place is a ticking time bomb. Eventually, suicides and protesters won't be the only thing bad happening there, and Apple looks like trash and showing support of the practices there by continuing to have a relationship with them.

I wouldn't mind paying extra $300 for a product made in USA. As long as the quality better than what you get from overseas.

Same here jo3blac1. As per an IT Tech with whom I spoke, told me that the quality of all these products made overseas are virtually the same. Doesn't matter which brand one buys.

Don't know if Apple's quality is better than other brands though.

I'm not sure how you meant that comment, but if it's some fanboy thing, I actually use Apple products, so the shot you fired missed. More relevant to the discussion though, the topic is Apple and Foxconn. Not Vizio, not MS or anyone else, which is why I commented on Apple. Should the rest of your list get far away from FoxConn? Hell yes.

I personally think all Apple's going to do is set up a plant for final assembly of the product - this means putting parts together, or at best, sourcing materials (plastics, paints, etc.) - in the US. I think all of the internals will still be made in China or Taiwan. The place of final assembly is the place of manufacture, so they can still say made in the USA.

I doubt quality will improve significantly as a result of this though - Foxconn and Flextronics have pretty strict quality control on all their plants, and quality (build, materials, etc.) I have yet to see a problem from devices manufactured by these 2 firms.

Indeed, it will be still manufactured in China, but made in USA, so it will satisfy the customers and increased prices as well, so everyone will be happy except Chinese labour.

Even though i don't own a single Apple product i hope they don't take this as an excuse to mark up the prices outrageously.

I am not a huge fan of several of those comapanies, but my actual point here will be that a lot of those companies are not based in the U.S. to begin with, so any outsourcing they do is not relevant to me bacsuse those jobs were not here to begin with.

As for Apple, I likely will not buy their products either way. I just feel there are better alternatives. If they move jobs here I will give them points for that. If they take away jobs from any people and give them to robots here, it will only lower my opinion of them.
