If I try to clone my Notebookharddrive to an USB-Harddrive I get regularly failures that TIH2009 can't read an sector on the USB-Drive.

And finaly I get the message:

Fehler: Fehler beim Lesen von Sektor 32 auf Datenträger 2.
(Failure: Failure at reading sector 32 on harddrive 2.)

After this TIH2009 stops the clone-process.

    My Hardware:

    Source:
    Notebook Asus A7Vc with Hitachi Travelstar IC25N080ATMR04-0 (80 GB, 4200 RPM, Ultra-ATA100)

    Destination:
    Western Digital Scorpio WD2500BEVE (250GB)
Interface for the WD250: IcyBox IB-220U-Wh 2.5 USB

Now I have tried it with installing TIH2009 (downloading newest version) on windows and started the cloneing under Windows.

Same failure. Cloneing breaks with an writefailure after some time.

I have now verified that the harddisk is working fine with copying some files on it and used the Western Digital Test Program which says that all is working fine.

And I have let run scandisk under windows before cloneing.

What else can I do to get TIH2009 workingo_O

Are you using front or back USB ports? If using front ports, try the ones in the back directly off the motherboard.

Do you have any other USB drives or devices connected (iPODs, media readers, etc.)? If so, have you tried it with them disconnected?

It's a Notebook/Laptop not a PC. And there are only 4 USB at the Back and one on the left side of my Notebook. The only other connected device beneath the USB-Harddrive is my Logitech Mouse.

And I have tried now a different usb-cable to connect the usb-harddrive. Doesn't help. Same problem.

    But thankyou for your reply.

I missed that it was a notebook. Do you have a USB2 PC Card you can try (assuming the notebook has a PC Card slot)?

Will TI successfully save an image backup to the USB drive? If it can, will it validate it successfully?

You might try contacting Acronis Support (via Live Chat) and seeing if they have a update that will better support your hardware.

    Hi :)

    No, I don't have a PCMCIA-USBCard for my Laptop.

I have now verified that the HD and IcyBox are working fine with letting a complete testrun of the "WD Diagnostics" "Extended Test" run which took some hours because it checked every sector of the hard drive for "bad sectors".

It run flawlessly. Found no failures.

And I have let run HD-Tach on the HD. It(32MB-Extended Bench) reported an average read speed of 31MB which is good for an extern USB-2,5Zoll-HD.
    And no failure messages.

I will try now to to save an image backup to the USB drive like you told me.
    I will report then....

    This is the configuration:

    Code:
    [ Asus A7vc Notebook ]-[ HD Hitachi Travelstar 80GN IC25N080ATMR04-0 (80GB) ]
                                   ^^^^^^

                                   [USB2]
                                   ||||||
                                   vvvvvv
    [ HD WDC Scorpio WD2500BEVE-00WZT0 (250GB) ]-[ Icy Box IB-220U-Wh ]

I have tried now the newest build (v9.709) but same problem.
[Before cloneing I did a complete "chkdsk /F /R" on all windows partitions on the old Hitachi Drive.]

Acronis has problems to write/read sectors on the new HD.

    | Failed to write to the sector 17.731.098 on the hard disk 2 |

    and finaly:

    +- | Error |-----------------------------------------------------+
    | Failed to read data from the disk. |
    | |
    | Failed to read from the sector 63 of the hard disk 2

But the Hitachi Test Tool (complete surface scan!) states that everything is right with the old HD.

An the WD Test Tool (complete surface scan) states that everything is right with the new HD.
And my personal test with trying to clone my Desktop PC HD(Samsung) to the new HD worked flawlessly. No Errors. All partition got cloned.

    Hello Atlanx,

Thank you for using Acronis True Image

Please plug the external hard drive to the system, download Acronis Report utility available here and run it, create a report. Attach the file to the post.

This would provide us with detailed information on the hard disk partition structure.

    Thank you.

Thank you for your help Oleg Lee.

After help from "E. Gudkov" from the german support of Acronis
I have found a solution for my problem.

    I replaced:

Western Digital Scorpio WD2500BEVE 250GB ATA
    IcyBox IB-220U-Wh 2.5 USB weiss/silber

    with this:

Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD3200BEVE 320GB ATA
IcyBox IB-250U 2.5 Zoll USB Silber

Result: The Cloneing worked without proplems or failures. I'm happy. :)

This is what I think, but I cannot proof it: I think there was a problem between the IcyBox IB-220U-Wh chipset and the usb-chipset of my notebook.

The Asus-Support thinks that there is probably an problem with the firmware of the WD2500BEVE.

Thank you for all your help.
