I've haven't tested it that much yet, but at first site it looks like Edge is at least a better browser than Chrome. I wouldn't be surprised once M$ starts pushing it via Win 10, that it will gain market share. But you just can't beat Vivaldi.

If you're using an old version of Win10 you probably don't have the Chromium Edge.

No, it's the new Edge, my laptop is brand new, but of course the Win 10 version might be a couple of months old.

Edge is very good but they keep adding bloatware features, which may or may not be a good thing. Maybe if you're a power user, or an extremely addicted shopoholic! :)

Actually, turns out you were right. I now see that it's the old Edge that's running on my system, it's not even a bad browser, but it also stays running in the background, quite annoying. I'm not sure if I'm going to install Edge Chromium though, but perhaps I will use it as a testing browser.

BTW, I've noticed that there is also a general setting in Win 10 that blocks apps from running in the background, but I haven't tested it yet. You can also configure app permissions via these settings. However I did notice that when you run Edge (non Chromium) and you close it, it stays running in memory, this is crazy. So perhaps it's best that M$ has switched to Chromium.

Edge is less secure and reliable than Chrome.

    • If you open the Task Manager or Process Explorer you can view a multitude of Microsoft Edge Update that as of December 23 Microsoft does not yet know how to solve.:thumbd::argh:
    • The mixed content of the images in Edge is loaded an HTTP connection :thumbd:
Edge displays the test site as unsafe, while for Chrome it is safe.
And it informs users that attackers can view images and modify them.

    Chrome:

    • Insecure Cipher Suites cannot be deleted in Edge:

If any member of W. claims that Edge is safer than Chrome for other reasons, I'll gladly read his thoughts.:thumb:;):)

P.S. Happy New Year to everyone.

I was thinking about installing Edge on Win 10 but not if it will cause these kind of problems. Do you mean that these processes get stuck in memory even after you close Edge? What's also weird is that if you want to download Edge via Vivaldi, it asks you to start up the old school Edge, so it won't let you download it via other browsers, a bit annoying.

The bug since I entered that info has been fixed, now it's a single process.
It can be present, in a certain period of time, even with the browser closed.

OK then I will probably give Edge Chromium a try, I will use it as my back up browser. The funny thing is that the old Edge wasn't bad at all but I can understand why M$ made the switch to Chromium.

When I wrote my post 588 there were 2 insecurity issues in Edge have they been fixed?

If they have not been resolved assumptions become facts.
