Another way that should dupe your IP not to throttle you is by using Tunneling. Took me long time to get my head around it. Only recently I managed to work it out. And it is not easy for me to stay on top of it as it is definitively not a set and forget option.

Confirmed! I have PureVPN pinned to my Task Bar and now clicking the icon provokes a UAC prompt. Nice! :thumb:

    Glad I could help.
You'll find that this VPN may not be the "most private" as far logs goes, but it is close home and do give me fantastic speed when connecting through OZ servers.
Disabling WebRTC in the browsers stop DNS leaks. And trading a bit of speed for security and privacy get me there if that is what I want.
But hey for Streaming TV series and watching movies online (the ones that wont land me in jail) even the lowest VPN security setting is all what I need.

It appears UDP isn't great at bypassing location restrictions. After connecting to a UDP server in the UK I visited YouTube and it still located me as being in Oz. This was after clearing the DNS cache and restarting two different machines.

Interesting. So what makes some setups leak that stuff?

I don't know Windows well enough to say much. But it's my impression that some tricks are required to get all VPN features working, when running as user. I don't know what those tricks are.

Transport type shouldn't affect that. Or at least, I don't know how it would.

Don't know, but as soon as I changed to SSTP I had no problem accessing certain restricted content.

It sounds like a DNS leak.

I think a couple of my Firefox extensions deal with these and other browser related stuff. No Resource URI Leak for example.

I was thinking of trying AirVPN or NordVPN (has local servers) but reading this thread I think it may be a tad complex for me. :(

Paul, I knew nothing about VPNs a week ago, not that I know that much more now. Image your machine and give it a go. ;)

There is a cost and I would say I'm a 'safe surfer' so anonymity is not a top priority for me.

But maybe I will. I'll let CU settle down for a few days first.

The only other VPN I tried was Mullvad"s three hour trial and it did not seem very easy for a newbie like me so I decided after looking at various sites to give AirVPN a three month try. Can always switch after that. Set at default seems easy to use. Support seems fast too. Besides it looks liker there a lot of AirVPN users here that can help. It has been very fast so far. Not seeing much lag at all. Using UDP not TCP, which is suppose to be faster.

It has being my experience, and I briefly tried several VPN over the past few years before taking the plunge, that they all require a learning curve. Longer one for newbies like you and I. Even if some are easier than others.
Moreover it seems to me that does not matter how much I tweak the settings, at different time of the day, the week, the month or even the year, I get totally different tests and speed results. What to speak of on different machines and geolocation.
VPN of any kind? Not a set and forget app IMO.

It looks like Google / YouTube are tricky (not impossible) to bypass. When I select USA as a server. I keep ending on on the AU sites. If I select UK I don't have any problem getting redirected the the UK sites.

That is strange. Maybe cookies, or some nastier form of tracking?

I was and remain clueless about VPN's..However, I use AirVpn and have run all the various leak testing sites and it only the AirVpn address shows up..It has many fine-tuning options but it seems to work "out of the box" for me.

:thumb: Smart move. your right AirVPN right out of the box is pretty solid.
I love it, the only way I am switching is when ProtonMail finishes it's VPN and it is available to the public.
Till then I am staying with Air ;)

I don't think it is cookies. I use Private Browsing mode in FF and to test I ran CCleaner and tried again with the same result. I did get around it by changing modes in the VPN client but its easier just to select UK.

There is NOTHING(!!!) private about that Private Browsing Mode in FF! :thumbd: :argh:
I've started my complain/thread in the other Privacy forum.

    Strange.

If you want better isolation, use the VPN in a VM. If there are no IP or DNS leaks, there will be no connection to your ISP location.

That's a little much just to watch Sky News on YouTube though. ;)
