    Same here.
I'm not even thinking about installing .331 untill I learn more about what is going on with SD.

I've posted three entries on the shadowdefenderdotorg blog but no reply has been received at this point 3 April 2011 23.35 UK
also no reply to my email to Tony at support@shadowdefenderdotcom

I've asked for information and explanation on behalf of the members, users, and potential purchasers but just silence

There doesn't seem to be any activity on the shadowdefenderdotorg blog or shadowdefenderdotcom except for the new version being offered for sale.

It's hard to say what is going on but if it is legitimate then in it is being dealt with very badly with little concern and no support for those who have kept faith with the software and developer or the mods who have made great efforts to keep the forum from becoming wall to wall spam. The forum would be running now if I had known earlier that there was a bug in phpbb that could lock us out of the forum although there is nothing that I can do to fix that without co-operation from the site/forum owner.

My own opinion at this point is that something stinks here, this doesn't feel right.

Checking out whois etc doesn't reveal much info about shadowdefenderdotorg
The domain has been bought to not reveal anything much.

I've looked at trying to report this to internet agencies but it seems that they are more concerned if you have been cheated or defrauded etc. I'll probably try to email a couple of people, Police FBI etc informally and see what's feasible.

I ask myself the question, "Why would the developer (or even new owners) release an update to the software after all this time of silence, without feeling the need to explain/apologise at least to the usership?". It's just plain weird!

Triple Helix, I'm not sure what point you are trying to make with the Eula (could you explain) but I have constantly tried to get a response from Tony at support@shadowdefender.com with not even a single response since early last year.
Shadow Defender updated is being offered on both sites...one site anonymous domain and the other with missing and uncontactable admin/developer.

Now just suppose that Tony was updating the shadowdefenderdotcom site with new software, Don't you think he would have noticed that the forum was down and written to me (he had/has my email) and mentioned it somewhere to the usership (He has been/posted to Wilders before)....and if he was opening a new site, wouldn't he tell someone what was happening. This doesn't even make good business sense...users and potential useris losing confidence by the day in the software and in the credibilty of the developer.
No! Something is not quite right here. Maybe shadowdefender.com has been hacked and there is something criminal going on? If not it's an insane move by a security software developer, whoever it is.

I understand! I installed Version 1.1.0.331 and just checking and posting some info that's all! But I feel this is a strange situation we are all in and especially you for putting so much time to help us understand with your hands tied behind your back! :(

    Best Regards,

Patrick /sdmod, I thought you added the new version to the shadowdefenderdotcom, and was just keeping use in the dark until some future date in which you would give us some sort of explanation. If you didn't add the mysterious SD build .331 to shadowdefenderdotcom then who else has enough acccess to the site to do so? Lets assume the site was not hacked even though none of use can really know if it was or wasn't. If it was not hacked who else could have added .331 to shadowdefenderdotcom? Who else running the site has enough access to make changes such as these to the site? I'm not saying the site wasn't hacked because I have no way of knowing if it was or wasn't. I'm just trying to see all possibilities. I don't care if the installer is signed or not. This would be a horrible business practice for a security software company or any company for that matter. I hope Tony is not behind this because if he is responsible then that would be a very stupid move on his part. I'm pretty sure now you didn't add .331 to shadowdefenderdotcom. It would only cause you more grief to lie about it, and you have nothing to gain. There's just so many possibilities, but none of them can end good unless someone is arrested or their actions are ceased for copyright violation. If this is not the outcome then Shadow Defender losses all credibility, and trust with its customers. It would be very hard to earn that trust back. I'm fairly certain that Shadow Defender's primary customer base are forum regulars, and will most likely be following this. Most of them probably heard about SD on Wilders or another similar forum. SD is my favorite security App, and I did not want to see anything happen to damage its reputation. Patrick, I wish you the best of luck in figuring this out!

I agree...some explanations for the users of SD are necessary, we are still not sure if this new version is legal or not. I try through other members of safegroup.pl to have contact with the author of Polish localization to the latest version (1.1.0.331)...if he will say his words...maybe...can explain something.

Signed or not, I am not going to touch this version with a 10 foot pole. Even if VT shows it clean, its easy for hackers/backdoor planters to evade detections of such services. Until the picture is clarified about who owns this site I wouldn't bother guys.

Patrick, any luck contacting domains/ Avantgate?

Cutting_Edgetech, Patrick has no ability to modifty/update upload executables to the SD site I think.

Folks, In trying to access the ‘past versions’ direct download link given by

    (1) Pidbo [30th June 2010] Post #12 at
    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=275972;

    and later by

    (2) sdmod (Patrick) [3rd March] Post # 64 in this thread

    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=293075&page=3

these have links that work [if you substitute http:// for xxtp://] with the EXCEPTION of the link for version 325.

I tried connecting to this direct link from both my home computer [dual boot XP and Linux Mint] and from my work computer [Windows XP], the latter having a very strong corporate/ government web filter, with the following results…………..

On my home computer the 325 link brings up version 331 for download [that is, v 325 is not accessable].

On my work computer all the download links work as above, but again with the exception that the link for 325 is blocked. A warning is given thus: -

“You cannot access the following Web address …… shadowdefender.com/download/SD1.1.0.325_Setup.exe

The site you requested is blocked due to a Malicious Web Reputation.

When I go to the work web filter information site to find out more information about “Malicious Web Reputation” this is what it says……….

Web pages that deploy code designed specifically to hijack your computer's settings or activity. Some examples include self-installing applications (called "drive-by" executable file downloads), Trojans, and viruses that exploit security vulnerabilities in browsers or other applications. It is possible for a Web page to lose its malicious status and be recategorized. This category is differentiated from the Spyware/Adware category by its intent. Spyware/Adware is intended to covertly gather and send information to another party; malicious sites intend to take action on another computer to cause damage.

On this basis I presume that 331 should be left alone, and this forum should undertake check sums on the past versions currently hosted on shadowdefender.com against the check sums of versions downloaded by users in 2010 [ideally before November].

I am interested in that I downloaded 325 successfully from the official web site [shadowdefender.com] only recently [16/3/2011….and wonder if I was the last one to do so?].

However I now wonder, in light of the probability that Tony’s web site has been hacked, if v325 that I downloaded is tainted?

Can anyone recommend a good simple check sum tool?

    this becomes very suspiciouso_O
I think Patrick is right ... you should get involved and help Patrick together to solve this mystery...
some are dangerously playing with the customers who have purchased the software.

I get this from .331 file if it helps? It's working well that's all I can say on Win 7 x64 and Win 7 x86! Doesn't ask for access to the net and I have scanned it with a few Anti-Malware's and it comes up clean!

    Hi Triple Helix,
Can you see any differences that could justify a version update? To come up clean doesn't necessarily mean that the program hasn't been tampered.
