The Year 2017 has been dubbed the Year of the Unicorn. Lots of big tech stories (the good, the bad and the ugly). FYI: 'cyber attacks' encompasses the likes of Wanna Cry but also the impact of big business breaches on consumers, e.g. Equifax. 'Privacy' is in reference to the preponderance of spying incorporated in products and services.

Choosing one will be difficult. Comments appreciated.

USA still the best. But barely.
Voted Assault on Privacy because it encompasses a few of the other choices.

Voted for cyber-attacks--because if "ransomware" wasn't a household word before, it is now.

Various governments trying to introduce backdoors or otherwise weaken encryption.

Encryption wars: The privacy debate raging in your smartphone

In other words ... Government(s) are very much against encryption, whereas Tech companies (especially smart phone manufacturers) see that encryption is essential to user security and privacy. The war exists here.

Well good luck with including a backdoor in Signal, I say!
