Apple just confirmed once and for all that AirPower will never come out

Apple is now selling the AirPower, basically, only it’s not made by Apple
It doesn't have all the same features, but the basic concept is the same

The thermal problem is inherent in all wireless charging solutions to date. There needs to be special cooling on the pad as well as the phone to solve this. But the efficiency of charging is then diminished. Cooling solutions if found will add substantial costs & weight. The least understood problem of wireless charging for the public (the experts know) is it heats up the hardware thus substantially shortening its lifespan.

Is that true even though qi uses drastically fewer watts than corded chargers?

I think because the monies involved are substantial. That experts can be found on both sides. I have no quantitative data just a basic understanding. In other words it's a you pick'em deal. People owning phones around a year shouldn't notice hardware degradation. It's ownership of a couple years or more where you'd see high differences in hardware failures vs corded charging.

    Warp Charge 30 Wireless Charger
OnePlus' new rapid wireless charging uses a fan to cool your phone's battery and the charger
30 Watts flowing over the air does not generate an insubstantial amount of heat
