Call me a sceptic, but I bet that list was complied based on ad revenue. There are much better approaches, like Ransomoff for example. Free and it's caught everything I've thrown at it.

Yes, it seems that list is limited to AV vendors and their dedicated anti-ransomware tools.

I never tried Ransomoff. Is it set-and-forget type of software, appropriate for average users, or does user have to mange a lot of settings or answer a lot of prompts?

You can go both ways. Simple for everyday users, and advanced for "tweakers"

    Agree with bias ;)

But then when a developer/vendor puts it's program thru the Wilder's members muster, something pretty sharp is bound to come off that assembly line well refined.

If any members of our forum could answer the following for me I would appreciate it very much. I am not sure if I actually need this software and I don't want to add unneeded security software to my system. 1) Is software, such as this, necessary for cautious internet activities? 2) Is it compatible with MalwareBytes Premium and ESET Internet Security? 3) How safe is installing a Release Candidate 1? As always I appreciate all replies and would thank you in advance.

    1. If you are cautious with downloads and emails then probably not
    2. Don't know about ESET, but with MBAM yes
    3. In this case very safe

Also Heidef is always sticking his head in here

    @jpc

Imo,,, no matter how one thinks he's careful and safe it only takes one time so I say why not, just pick one and go with it.

Well in reality the best removal tool is simply a system restore. All it needs is liberal application of the imaging process

Preferably a restore through a 3rd party application. Ant ransomware coder worth anything will also wipe Shadow Copies.

Macrium + DS serves the purpose in this camp. IFW + Macrium in yours?

Still find it hard to believe how Ransom0ff swept up and closed down all the ransomwares I pushed into my test system(s).
Today as yet to have any restores applied to them and they do other chores marvelously as always. And they're Win 10 systems.

Thanks to you Pete I took imaging far more seriously than I would other wise bothered with, and is long now become a normal routine

Easter, glad I could help. I run hourly Macrium images and the whole thing flies on auto pilot. It has saved me more times then I care to count

I don't get what "ransomware removal" means.
Ransomware protection is all about prevention. If you happen to get a ransomware working on your pc, you can delete the ransomware, but most likely you won't get your files back, unless you made a backup

Moose- Ranstop is having issues with a recently released PyLocky (python coded) ransomware that has popped up in August.

    @ cruelsister

Hey there,M, appreciate your insight! Which one Anti-ransomware would suggest and/or suggestions
    at this point in time?:thumbd:
Or a combinations of security software to take care of above problems. Along with :shifty:
    zero-day exploits.

    Always the best,

Hi Moose! Recently I have been disappointed in RanStop. The worst was the PyLocky, which was not only ignored by the application, but by the way it works was also ignored by Ranstops's restore mechanism. So right now if you wanted a better choice for a dedicated Anti-ransom app I would go with AppCheck.

But as far as zero day anti-exploit apps are concerned, I don't think that one exists. Yes, you will have some products that promote themselves as being so, but really all they are just telling you that they will detect any exploit that is already known -essentially just like any other quality Security product can do. Outside of an application that will virtualize stuff, or a product that is highly restrictive on things that can be run, there can be no guarantee by anything touting itself as a specific ant-exploit app that something truly unique will be detected and stopped.

(ps- check your PM for a link)

ITMan- I was always wondering when those walking on the nasty side of town would discover the wonders of Python! The cool thing about this specific ransomware is that it will encrypt a Doc or a txt first, then replace them with a ransom message with the exact same file name (it will just encrypt things like photos, mp3's, etc). And almost forgot to mention this malware was signed.

Gotta love it when malware makes you smile!

At least this explains why you are well versed in PyLocky: https://twitter.com/malwrhunterteam/status/1032627737855442944 . Just keep it targeted at France …………… Maybe ISIS based?
