Hi to all. I do spoof Firefox 52.9 and Basilisk on my XP. *** Basilisk *** If you set: "general.useragent.compatmode.firefox" to false Basilisk pass the test below: https://www.whatismybrowser.com/ But there is a contra-indication the old Google web-page is displayed. Better to change: general.useragent.compatMode.version" value 52.9 to 62.0. _____________________________________ Firefox 52.9:
Thanks Everyone. I'm going to give Basilisk and Palemoon a go later and see if I can view those videos that require html5. I'll let you know how I get on.
I had a go with Palemoon newmoon and Basilisk Serpent on my xp sp3 32 bit /86 system and the main problem that I had was dowloading the recommended adblocker adblock latitude. I managed to install it in Palemoon which runs quite well but not in Basilisk because something will not let me make a connection to install it. A message something like 'The addons could not be downloaded because of a connection failure'. I'm not sure what the problem is but I notice that others have had it on the Basilisk forum. With both these progams there seems to be a lot more unnnerving 'activity' (things trying to connect in and out) than I'm used to in my other browsers and I have difficulty with my not knowing the best configuration options for maximum security and privacy without crippling my browsing range. In Basilisk I eventually installed adblock plus but the browser runs a little more 'clunky' than palemoon which is smooth. nb ps edit Basilisk seems to have settled down now and is smoother. By the way adblock plus does seem to block ads in Basilisk. On both browsers set up with adblockers I was able to view html5 videos and test pages where I seemed to get a reasonable score.. As a test I'm currently (right now) running an old Firefox which is sandboxed (Sandboxie) and Basilisk and Palemoon together and they all seem happy enough.
@sdmod You could also try uBlock Origin extension which seems to work with Pale Moon. (new moon) and Mypal version. Mypal has option to install the executable on system or the portable version. Haven't tried Basilisk and the latest TBB is not supported on XP.
I'm using Palemoon Newmoon and Basilisk Serpent How do I save my settings for both browsers so I have something on my pc not on the cloud? basilisk52-g4.1.win32-git-20180908-b728af022-xpmod.7z and palemoon-28.1.0a1.win32-git-20180908-b728af022-xpmod.7z I've only installed them (up to now) in Shadow Defender (Shadow Mode) and lose the settings on reboot. PS I use XP sp3
C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\Moonchild Productions: 2 Folders Basilisk and Pale Moon
Can't you use Shadow Defender to specify which files and folders are permanently saved to the real environment? Then your Pale Moon and Basilisk settings would be retained after reboot.
Yes I could do that but I didn't know exactly what to save. I use shadow mode for testing things like that before I allow it onto my main system. When a browser is configured and has ublock origin or another adblocker and duckduckgo as a homepage then I wanted to get it all right.. That's why I wanted to save my settings so that I could test to see if my settings were alright to configure the browsers next time I come into shadow mode before proceeding with a permanent install of the browsers and add ons. Then when I boot into Shadow Mode the browsers will be all ready for me to use.
@sdmod Ok understand. I use system virtualization as well similar to Shadow Defender. Another alternative which I use is Sandboxie for installing & testing apps like browsers. I always run my browser(s) sandboxed unless I'm doing an update. Once done the browser get's sandboxed. An added layer of security. Installing a Virtual Machine is another way of testing to.
