I fear that someone else has settled the issue on one or the other thread, but I'll take the chance.

Avast! free is my favorite. I tried avg, but couldn't get it to update. Those are the only 2 free anti virus software that I have tried. I'm very satisfied with avast and would recommend it to anyone. Some folks say that it has slowed down there computer. I haven't had that problem. I run windows me with a 700 mhz intel celeron prossessor. Avast! updates frequently, sometimes 2 or 3 times a day. I also run Boclean in case a trojan would slip by.

I also do free online scans once a week. http://housecall.trendmicro.com
    http:// www.pandasoftware.com

Btw, I'm a formor norton user. When live update started crashing my computer. I went to avg, then avast.

At the moment I am using CA eTrust which is not on your list. Have Panda Platinum as well as F-prot (dos).
I cannot say which is the best on your list, cause I don't know.

    I dunno
CA owns My Etrust who own EZ Firewall and EZ Antivirus. Ne'er used it.

Edit: maybe ETrust and ETrust EZ are different brands (and I've sonfused myself again, foot in mouth and all)

Another one I am going to try soon is Winproxy 5.2 gateway AV which I won on another security forum (thanks Paul!)
It features antivirus technology from Sophos, McAfee and Panda Software.

Question: Is it possible/feasible/advisable to run >1 AV shields/autoprotects simultaneously?
    If so... recommendations please?
Also: is NOD32 free? I dn see that on the site, but some one mentioned it on the site.

explain what and how you 'won' and I'm also confused about your last post.
Also... is NOD32 free... Doesn't say so on their site, but some1 said it was on another thread here.

It's not the same, but it's the same company all right. The EZ version is directed towards home users. eTrust is part of the eTrust security suite of CA. I suppose the underlying engines and signatures are comparable. eTrust has good corporate AV-management facilities (yeah, I see the same message on my corporate desktop).
CA supports lots of AV versions. They have two main engines: Vet and InoculateIT and several AV products. From their AV-website
At home I'm an Avast user on my Windows system. Perhaps not the best of AV's, but my system setup is pretty immune to infections. I doubt if I even need AV on my desktop, but just in case :)

    Hi,

I have tested NAV / KAV / NOD / AVG, and even if each one has it's own advantages, NOD ends winner for me :)

    regards,

    gkweb.

    Hi meneer,

Just to be clear, my eTrust version has both the VET and the InoculateIT engine. I bought it in the box. (u know: media markt :))

The consensus among most tests seems to point to Kaspersky as the most powerful antivirus, with McAfee a close second.

Since McAfee runs smoothly on my system with no slowdowns, bugs or ad streams I choo-choo-choose McAfee!

I have tried almost everyone of those listed above and I love NOD32. If I had to choose a 2nd I would probably choose Kaspersky.
