    Hello @Brian K,

Thanks for the reply and link. It has nothing to do with what I was thinking and can see now that it does not apply to me...

I don't know what's going on with this program. I'm using the latest v3.22 and no matter what settings I chose and no matter whether I run a "Full" backup within Windows or from the recovery pen drive, it creates the largest file size possible, resulting in a ~6.5 hour backup! It backed up successfully but the time it took was unacceptable.Attached is my drive layout, and when I chose to backup the C: drive IFW creates a 267 GB backup. I use the defaults Enhanced Speed-A compression and maximum file size options, plus Validate. If I don't chose Validate the backup would take just over 3 hours. Still way longer than it should take.

I've selected both Faster changes only backups and Metadata Hash files., and I also tried one or the other of these latter options, and finally neither of them, but it still results in a 267 GB backup. Even when I tried to run a Changes only backup it still wants to create a 267 GB file size with predicted time remaining of 6.5 hours. I've suspended Bitlocker then booted into the RE pen drive and it still shows the full partition size. The partition is showing 0% fragmentation, I ran sfcscannow, chkdsk c: /f/r and no problems to speak of. The laptop is a practically brand new Lenovo E580, 4GB RAM, running Windows 10 Pro. I'm completely out of ideas.

I have a similar issue, regarding size of backups. Not sure about timings, my backups run at night on a schedule.

I run IFW in Simple Operations mode, as a secondary backup on one laptop. Full backups were normally around 45 GB, with small (e.g. 1-2GB) intervening incrementals. This is on 256 GB SSD with 60 GB used space.

Since the 10th, so it looks like since I updated to v3.22, I have had some monster backups (up to 165 GB) with occasional much larger incrementals (not sure if they are incrementals or fulls!).
I noticed because I run the Simple Operations mode task with a /maxdss parameter (as suggested by support) of 600 GiB to limit the space for IFW backups on my external drive.
This had been working fine, but I now have only a few backups.

I am hesitant to post on the forum because I don't really want to get involved in any potential debugging. I am not too familiar with IFW, I feel it may be above my pay grade.
Also AOMEI BackUpper Pro with a 3-incremental scheme has recently been acting similarly (but not sure exactly from when though), so thought it may be that (newish) laptop.
Or it might even be related to IFW, no idea.
I notice no oddities with Macrium Reflect Free with differential backups (fulls around 45 GB, incrementals 1-3 GB), which remains my primary backup.

It does seem suspicious that this strange IFW behaviour started straight after updating to IFW v3.22 though.

Haven't run a sfc or chkdsk. Will do later.

This unusually large file size and longer backup time issue has started way earlier than v3.22, especially when backing up a dual boot Win10+Linux EXT4 disk installed in UEFI secure boot. I emailed IFW tech support and they come up with many BS nonsense, basically accused me of doing something wrong. I told them that I have been a IFL users for more than 10 years and I know how to use this program but they ignored my email, and refused to check their code.

Unfortunately, the once most reliable disk image app also comes down this path of degrading. It's truly a pity. Macrium Reflect and Clonezilla both backed up the disk at normal speed and normal file size.

Thanks Oliver. Just strange I had not had such issues since first using IFW for simple Win10 setup in SO mode since the beginning of the year. Only in the last week.
Hmm. Ran sfc /scannow and 'Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.' :(

Then ran Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image. /CheckHealth found nothing, but /ScanHealth found 'The component store is repairable', and /RestoreHealth thankfully 'completed successfully'. :isay:

After a reboot, sfc /scannow found no integrity violations. :thumb:

Anyway not sure if all this could be related ... probably not, and off-topic :).

Will see after tonight's scheduled tasks.

But at least my Monday morning is OK , for now :cautious:.

Guys, this is from an All sector backup...

    [09/17/2018 06:50:52 PM] INFO: Total Sectors:1126400 Total Allocated:1126400
    [09/17/2018 06:50:52 PM] INFO: 1126400 Sector(s) backed up

Can you look in your log and see if Total Sectors, Total Allocated and Sector(s) backed up are the same number.

@Brian K , @paulderdash can you run a full backup on a small partition and compare the size of the backup with the size of the actual data of the partition? It seems that version 3.22 takes the images without compressing the data. and happens with ifl too (at least on my systems).

Hi @pandlouk - as I say I just have IFW set up for SO mode, and only shows whole of C: drive to back up (which is all I want).
I have never explored TB IFW and all it's capabilities, so no idea how to backup an individual partition.

My C: drive is 61.3 GB used so if you look at that Explorer screenshot, something is up, but seemingly inconsistent.

    Panagiotis,

Ver 3.22 IFW and IFL are working normally in my two computers. MBR and UEFI. No compression or image size issues.

Thanks I just re-run it and seems ok now.
I suspect I had screwed up something when imaging my new laptop (a dell with the slowest hdd I ever saw) , the touchpad behaves strangely under linux and probably selected none at the compression:oops:

Do you have bitlocker enabled? Dell enables it by default.
It could be that with the new /lvm option ifw identifies bitlocker encrypted drive as a linux logical volume (and since you do not have enabled lvm it copies all the sectors)

Good news, Terabyte has confirmed the issue and plan to release v3.22a later today. Hopefully it works.
