T-Mobile today held another one of its Uncarrier events, where it announced TVision, its foray into the TV streaming service, joining competitors such as YouTube TV. T-Mobile claims that TVision is for users who don't want to pay too much for channel bundles and those that want more choice.

As a subscription service, TVision offers three major components.
TVision LIVE is the basic package for those interested in following live sports and news, and it starts at $40/month for TVision Live TV, which includes over 30 channels covering sports and news. You can expand those offerings with Live TV+, which adds over 10 additional channels including regional sports, football, and golf, and costs $50 per month.

Finally, Live Zone is the top tier offering, and for $60, it includes all of content above plus 10 additional channels. The two higher tiers also include a year of Apple TV+ for free for thisethat sign up before the end of the year.

Another option is TVision Vibe, which includes over 30 channels covering different kinds of shows, with channels such as Hallmark, HGTV, and TLC, with many channels supporting on-demand viewing with two simultaneous streams. This option costs $10 per month.

Finally, there's TVision Channels, which offers select premium channels a-la-carte, allowing users to only pay for the channels they want. These start at $5.99 per month, and include channels like Starz, Showtime, and Epix.

T-Mobile has officially launched TVision, a new live TV streaming service that the company promises will shock the cable TV industry in the same way that T-Mobile’s aggressive plans and “Uncarrier” moves helped to push the cellular industry forward.

As it did with mobile, T-Mobile is trumpeting the service’s relatively cheap pricing (although it remains to be seen whether T-Mobile will actually be able to maintain those $10 and $40 price points long term). But when it comes to actually using the TVision apps, the experience is about as basic as it gets.

t’s still early days for TVision (the service is quite literally a day old), and presumably, T-Mobile will continue to build out the service as time goes on. For now, if you’re looking for a replacement for cable, T-Mobile’s offering will do just that. But don’t expect much more.
TVision is available now for all post-paid T-Mobile customers. Sprint users will have access later in November, with the service set to open up more broadly to all users in 2021.

T-Mobile's TVision was pitched as "TV done right" when the mobile carrier unveiled its revamped live-TV streaming service last week. To CEO Mike Sievert, that meant offering bundles of channels that weren't carbon copies of competitors like YouTube TV, Sling TV or Philo. It also meant being an "ally" to the programmers supplying TVision with those all-important channels, he said.

"Of course, obviously, everything we're announcing today is fully vetted through our programmers," Sievert said in an interview last week, the same day the carrier announced TVision's aggressively priced bundles of channels that stream live over the internet.

For two major programmers, however, that vetting never happened. T-Mobile didn't share details of TVision's channel bundles with Discovery or ViacomCBS, two people familiar with the matter said Thursday. Beyond the failure to brief the new partners as claimed, T-Mobile isn't abiding by the obligations of their deals, the people said, marring the new service's first week with carriage disputes.

What it means for you
When they can't be resolved, channels can go dark on a service you're already paying for, or they disappear from your service completely. And even when these disputes are resolved, they often result in your cable bill eventually creeping higher.

If T-Mobile resolves the objections of its programmers by agreeing to stick more channels in TVision's upper tiers, those pricier packages may become more expensive.

T-Mobile’s TVision Live service gets more channels as short-term fix for content disputes
It’s being framed as a holiday deal

T-Mobile is adding 33 channels from its $10-per-month TVision Vibe service for free to all of its pricier TVision Live plans as it deals with ongoing complaints from cable companies like Discovery over how it offers channels.

“Current TVision Live customers and anyone who signs up for a TVision Live service package gets an additional 30+ top-rated entertainment channels from TVision Vibe included,” the press release notes.
As Variety notes, T-Mobile’s press release frames the newly added channels as a holiday deal, but the reality is likely a little bit more complicated: it’s a temporary solution as T-Mobile works to deal with issues raised by its cheaper $10-per-month Vibe plan, which offers channels from AMC, Discovery, and Viacom at a dramatically lower cost.

According to an earlier report from Variety, the issue is centered on the fact that T-Mobile’s contract with those content providers dictates that channels offered in cheaper tiers (like Vibe) have to be included in more premium tiers, too.
