SysFader message & no hard drive access!!

    Hello! I am trying to help my father fix his computer and I am stumped. I cannot access anything on the hard drive through the desktop or the control panel. Everytime I right-click something it just says:

    The instruction at "0x0274f065" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "written".
    Click on OK to terminate the program
    Click on CANCEL to debug the program

    After that there is a pause and then it opens a Microsoft window that says:
    "DrWatson Postmortem Debugger has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

    I ran AdAware and SpyBot. Any suggestions what the problem might be? I'm afraid the whole system will crash soon and all of my homework is saved on the hard drive! The only way I can access my term papers is by going through Word, not through Explorer. Thanks for your time!
