Symantec to Buy 'Browser Isolation' Firm Fireglass

Security giant Symantec plans to acquire Israel-based endpoint security firm Fireglass in a move to add remote browser isolation technology to its security portfolio.

Browser isolation, also known as Web isolation, is a proxy-based method that processes a Web session remotely rather than on the endpoint or in a sandbox. The technology also provides remote rendering of files and email attachments to avoid malicious downloads onto an endpoint machine. Browser isolation was one of the top technologies for information security named by Gartner recently.

Seems like this kind of isolation is different than the method being used by Sandboxie/Invincea and other virtualization tools.

Symantec to Acquire Mobile Security Firm Skycure

Just three days after announcing that it would acquire Fireglass, Symantec announced that it has agreed to acquire mobile security firm Skycure.

Founded in 2012 by two former members of Israel Defense Forces' Unit 8200, Skycure has raised a total of $27.5 million in funding to date, and offers a threat prevention platform aimed at protecting mobile devices by monitoring network traffic behavior and fixing suspicious activity.

Symantec said that Skycure’s technology would be combined with its Integrated Cyber Defense Platform, giving Symantec customers “access to comprehensive and effective endpoint protection offerings across traditional and mobile devices, with enhanced capabilities for mobile devices, applications, network gateways and data protection."
