Nothing new here...

'Supertrick' was the name given to the list of ads and webservers one could add to their HOSTS provided by the old KazaaLite website. They were a list of entries for the HOSTS file which is found in the Windows directory.

If I add an entry such as...

127.0.0.1 www.badadserver.com

The computer would first refer to this file and so far as it is concerned the IP address for the site is 127.0.0.1 (your own computer) and thus the packets never go outsie your computer. If you obtain a decent HOSTS file some sites will get ugly when you have a bunch of blank boxes and red Xes scattared all over the site. Edexter is a program which replaces these rather screwy images into a 'transparent' pinkish purple dash. It sounds girly and barneyish but it really is alot better to have than what you see without Edexter.

Spyware Blaster and Spybot Search & Destroy (immunization tool) are some tools that handle ActiveX spyware modules for Internet Explorer. CWShredder is a tool in and of itself as well for handling CWS trojans. I am installing the program now... The only thing that I am interested in at all are the ads and webservers it blocks. I wish to merly merge those with the ones I already have. Using a program called HOSTESS I gathered all of the online HOST files I could google and merged them together. After exporting the file I ran HOSTESS again just to make sure I got out all duplicate entries. I then used Hijack This to remove all entriesthat had anything other than 127.0.0.1 - It is about 2.53 MB and contains 84,849 entries.

Hmmm lets see I am scanning for duplicate entries from the new Supertrick and I am getting new entries so...

 

That's a lot of entries. What are you currently using to verify them? Have you tried CIP?

When it's trying to verify an entry that's dead it will slow down the checking but it doesn't freeze the program. It does however freeze while it's loading & unloading a large hosts file.

Which hosts did you merge? Everyone that you have listed? I'm currently using one that I merged from 3 sites. It contains 28,903 entires & it's about 810KB.
