I need a program light, I have to encrypt only one-two folder on my home pc; I don't want softwares as VeraCrypt that mount virtual volumes on the drive, but something more light, and freeware. Secure Folder ? I have Windows 11, I don't know if it's compatible. 7-Zip's encryption is safe ?
I don't know of any freeware folder encryption tools. Perhaps Secret Disk is an option? But I don't think it encrypts files. Same goes for Secure Folders, it only locks and hides files. https://www.filecroco.com/download-secret-disk/ https://www.filecroco.com/download-secure-folders/
Actually, I just found out about Wise Folder Hider, which apparently can also encrypt folders, but the freeware version is a bit limited. https://www.wisecleaner.com/wise-folder-hider.html
OK cool, perhaps I will also try it. At the moment I'm not encrypting full folders, but I am encrypting individual files with Kryptelite, it's freeware and you might want to check it out. https://www.snapfiles.com/get/kryptellite.html
I'll get a look. Now I'm using mainly my new all in one, so I don't try many softwares that later I could unistall, to keep it clean. I'll try Kryptelite in another pc
BTW, about Kryptelite, it's best to stay away from it. It can't be trusted, because a week ago I was trying to decrypt my files, but it wouldn't accept my password. So I thought I forgot about my password, but this wasn't the case, because all of a sudden, the next day it did accept my password. Also, the homepage is now offline, so I'm guessing development has been stopped. Instead of encryption I will simply rely on file/folder locking software like Hide Folders and Secure Folders. But of course this doesn't give protection against when your laptop is stolen. You still need encryption for this, but it does protect against malware. https://www.snapfiles.com/get/kryptellite.html https://www.snapfiles.com/get/hidefolders.html
Thank you for your feedback. For the moment to encrypt I'm using 7-Zip: may be it's not the safer encryption program, but for tnhe moment it's enough for my need.
OK I see, didn't even know that zip apps offered this feature. But this experience with Kryptelite made me a bit wary of encryption apps, I really thought I had lost my data, not a nice feeling.
My need was only encrypt some money's file im my pc, so even I had an hardaware crash such I can't solve by myself, I could give my pc to a technician.
OK I see, then encryption is needed of course. Because I'm not sure if file/folder locking tools can protect files in safe mode. So a nosy technician could possibly still get access to the files.
