    Hello,
I'm wondering has anyone seen these updates in action.
Anyone using non-windows firewall that is... I haven't.

I had received the silent updates while having AutoUpdates shut off, discussed here... https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=185377 ...and at the time only used a router. I have since installed a software firewall to possibly prevent these stealth updates until I go to MicrosoftUpdates.

I guess there is a reason to be suspicious of 'stealth' updates :isay: .

There is a manual fix posted in the 2nd link that Meriadoc provided.

Did as per above kb. They left out one 'l' in wups2.dll in case someone is
unable to register the automatic update service. :D
However, since carrying out the 'fix', the update site at first only scanned,
    and then produced an error.

PS. Now it works (after restarting IE).

So far I haven't experienced a problem, as far as I know I have all the updates as none are listed.

Kinda makes you wonder if the stealth updates were done for the purpose of not allowing further security updates. That would force a switch to Vista by some M$ users.

It looks more like amateurs updating the update process and screwing it up to me than anything overtly sinister.
