When I start my computer, I get a lot of disk activity for ten minutes (flashing disk light, disk noise) making it difficult to do anything else until it's over. Could this be caused by a Nod32 virus scan at startup?

You can try disabling automatic startup scan tasks, but I wouldn't rcommend doing so as you'd disable one layer of protection.

I've got a similar-sounding problem on one of three machines running NOD32. That machine is a Dell laptop with Embassy Trust Suite installed, and I've wondered if the problem (and it IS a problem) is due to some interaction between the two. Is the NOD32 faceplate displayed throughout the period you're talking about?

No, there is no indication in the status bar that it is running.

Same here, but the faceplate is displayed for many minutes.
