    Please can I seek help.

I purchased a Crucial 1tb SSD and have been trying to clone this drive with a full functionable 500gb original drive (Lenovo x240 win 10)

The cloning application used is Acronis and this appears to function well.

Yet after a week of trying the problem of reboot on startup is still a big problem. (shutdown / power on OK) I have had to reinstall the original HDD to get my X240 to function.

    Any help would be welcome.

    David,

    UEFI or MBR system?

How was the clone performed? Were both drives internal or was one in a USB enclosure? Did you copy all partitions on the 500 GB drive? What were the partitions named ?

After the cloning process completed, were both drives connected in the computer for the first boot from the 1 TB SSD? Or did you disconnect the 500 GB drive prior to the first boot?

How often does the computer reboot on startup? Do you see a BSOD?

ANS: Restart seems to happen more often than normal and I see 2100: Detection error on HDD0 Press Esc to continue.

I feel you know the problem and answer to the solution. would love to get this fixed.

    Morning Brian,
This is a more detailed answer:
I used the Acronis True Image app as recommended by Crucial to perform the clone process. This has a auto mode that performs the disk initialisation.

    UEFI or MBR system? UEFI

How was the clone performed? Acronis True Image app as recommended by Crucial

Were both drives internal or was one in a USB enclosure? The original HDD remained in the internal slot of the x240. The SSD was connected via a SATA cable to the USB port

Did you copy all partitions on the 500 GB drive?

    Yes all partitions were copied.

What were the partitions named ?

    1. System Drive NTFS 1.465 GB

    2. Windows 7 _ OS C: 442.9 GB NTFS

    3. Lenovo Recovery NTFS 21.37

(When you view both the drives after cloning they report being the same)

After the cloning process completed, were both drives connected in the computer for the first boot from the 1 TB SSD?

NO the 1TB SSD was installed into the internal bay replacing the original HDD. The original HDD was totally disconnected from the system

How often does the computer reboot on startup? Do you see a BSOD?

The system seems to restart itself unexplained (unlike when a MS system update may happen)

There is no BSOD however this screen appears after a few minuets : 2100: Detection error on HDD0 (main HDD)

    Pres escape:

Then a screen Boot Menu PCI LAN: IBA GE slot 00C8 v1553

    Thank you

    best regards

    David

David, thanks for that. No cloning errors on your part.

A Google search of the error indicates there could be a connection issue with the SSD. If you haven't already, can you try plugging the 1 TB SSD in a few times to see if you can get a better connection.

Its a good point however given I have been trying various troubleshoots over the past week where the drive has been replaced a few times unlikely. What is frustrating the problem is widely reported on crucial web site customer forum. Crucial are working on my case and waiting for another reply. Meantime I have a sandisk SSD on the way. Lets see how this performs

    Hello Brian
After a week of pure frustration with the crucial ssd. I purchased the same ssd from SanDisk. This installed first go perfect. It remains a mystry.
